Environmental Site Assessment
SME’s Environmental Professionals have years of experience identifying Recognized Environmental Conditions in the field.

SME provides due diligence services as defined in the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, commonly known as Superfund) and the Small Business Liability Relief and Revitalization Act (the Brownfields Amendments).  These services include Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and Modified Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (MESA), using the recently updated American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) E1527-13 and the EPA All Appropriate Inquires (40 CFR 312) standards, risk analysis, testing and remediation.

The purpose of Phase I ESA and MESA investigations is to gather sufficient information to develop an independent professional opinion about the environmental condition of the property and to identify actual or potential environmental contamination, which may impact the property value.

If conditions warrant additional investigation, Phase II ESA’s provide a detailed analysis as to the extent of contamination at a site with project dependent sampling and analysis.

SME is staffed with technical and regulatory experts to handle environmental clearances and due diligence assessments related to commercial, industrial and municipal projects.  SME has performed numerous ESA’s in Colorado, and the key to SME’s success lies within our ability to guide a project from an existing environmental condition to a condition of full environmental compliance.  SME’s staff is experienced in conducting ESA investigations for commercial real estate transactions, land development projects, utility corridors, transportation projects, and municipal projects.
